Bharat Jodo Yatra 2.0: Congress gearing up for Rahul Gandhi’s second ‘padyatra’ from Gujarat to Meghalaya | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Congress is gearing up for the second phase of Rahul Gandhi‘s Bharat Jodo Yatra and a committee has been formed to finalise the details, though there is no official word from the grand old party yet.

Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole on Tuesday announced that Rahul Gandhi will start his padayatra from Gujarat to Meghalaya and the schedule for the march will be announced later.
Patole said the Congress workers in Maharashtra would hold parallel march across the entire state coinciding with Rahul’s padyatra.

“We will start a padayatra (in Maharashtra) when Rahul Gandhi starts his own padayatra from Gujarat to Meghalaya. The programme (to carry out the march in the state) has been given to us by the All India Congress Committee (AICC),” Patole told reporters here.
Rahul’s inaugural Bharat Jodo Yatra in September last year had evoked good response. The former Congress president had covered around 4,000 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir where he ended the march in January this year.
On Monday, Amit Chavda who is the leader of opposition in Gujarat assembly had said that a committee has been formed at the central level to chalk out the second phase of Bharat Jodo Yatra and the details are being finalised.
Chavda has invited Rahul Gandhi to start the second phase of his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from the state.
“We have extended an invitation to Rahul Gandhi to start the second phase of Bharat Jodo Yatra from Gujarat, which is the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel. The second phase should begin from the state,” Amit Chavda said.
“Many state units have made similar or other suggestions for the second phase of the padyatra,” Chavda informed.
Uttar Pradesh Congress president Brijlal Khabri wants Rahul to spend more time in the state during the second phase of his padyatra.
“Though things are fluid at the moment, party workers and state leadership have urged Rahul Gandhi to spend more time in UP in the second phase of his Bharat Jodo Yatra,” he said.
UP Congress chief said that the route map and dates are being finalised.
In the first phase of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi had covered just three districts in UP — Ghaziabad, Baghpat and Shamli. Rahul had walked for over 130 km from Ghaziabad, and covered parts of Shamli and Baghpat from where he entered Haryana.
With assembly elections in three important states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh – the Congress would hope that Rahul’s padyatra galvanises the cadres and helps in building the momentum in the run up to Lok Sabha elections next year.
