Harry ‘lost touch’ with friends who ‘kept their distance’ after his marriage to Meghan Markle – Times of India

According to King Charles’ former butler, Grant Harrold, Prince Harry is growing apart from his longtime friends, and experts are analyzing the reasons behind this reported rift, reported Fox News.
Harrold, who served the monarch for seven years during Prince Harry’s time as the Prince of Wales, asserts that Harry has severed connections with friends he once shared with Prince William.
“I know several of Harry’s friends who have lost touch with him completely,” Harrold stated on behalf of Spin Genie, as reported by the New York Post.
The Duke of Sussex missed the wedding of his longtime friend Jack Mann in July, despite Mann attending Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s 2018 wedding.
Harrold also highlighted a similar distancing in Prince Harry’s relationship with his brother, Prince William.
“They were both very sociable in their youth,” Harrold observed. “It’s truly disheartening to see how they’ve gone from being the closest of friends to barely maintaining any connection. They’ve become so distant.
“I mainly worked with them during their late teenage years and twenties. I admired how well they got along. They were always having fun together, engaging in friendly banter, and playing harmless pranks. They were inseparable and shared the same circle of friends. You’d often find them together in pubs. It was a golden era for them.”
In 2020, Harry and Markle relocated to the United States after stepping back from their royal duties. However, British royals expert Hilary Fordwich asserts that the gap between Harry and his friends had already started to widen.
“Harry’s friends mostly hail from the prestigious Eton College, where the offspring of elites are groomed for future national leadership. In fact, 20 British prime ministers were educated at Eton,” Fordwich explained to Fox News Digital.
“One of the earliest ruptures occurred when he introduced Meghan to his Eton friends in 2016 during a Sandringham country estate shooting event,” Fordwich noted. “Since then, the friends have maintained their distance, just as Harry has.”
Christopher Andersen, author of “The King,” also pointed out that physical distance played a role.
“When ‘Megxit‘ initially took place, William and Harry’s friends were compelled to pick sides,” Andersen remarked. “Even lifelong friends like Henry and Thomas Van Straubenzee, who had known the princes since childhood, were compelled to choose one side over the other, straining their own family ties.
“But time and geography have taken their toll. Harry’s life is now centered in California, not London. Consequently, he has grown closer to Meghan’s social circle. He can no longer casually drive a few miles to attend a friend’s wedding in the English countryside, as he often did in the past.”
Andersen also noted that continued scrutiny of Harry’s relationship with the royal family makes it challenging to maintain his old friendships.
“The challenges extend beyond the thousands of miles that separate Harry from his friends. Every time he boards a plane to return to England, speculation about meetings with the king and his brother runs rampant,” Andersen explained. “There just aren’t as many opportunities for him to reconnect with his old friends in England.”
